Homework #3 Initial thoughts on digital unit

When you really look at the affect of purely communication electronic devices you realize how drastic the change is. Pagers and beepers seemed to be the revolution in communication only a couple of years ago and now they are "dead technology" We can literally contact any one with a mobile device or computer in a matter of seconds. I was watching a James Bond film the other night and was completely amazed that a solid ammount of his super cool gadgets have already come out. He was talking to an agent through a video on a screen. Once very cool, we already have the video chat function on many of our laptops.
The real question that i wonder is how far can and will we go from here? We often focus so much of our time into creating the new ipod, and the sidekick when if we spent all this time, energy, money and research when we could use it on maybe finding a solution to global warming?World hunger? I think its our priorities that are screwed up.

I enjoyed reading your post. i started reading and wanted to read more. i like how you made connections to I like the fact that you spoke how you really felt about the use of digital/electronics and its usage. You made many connections with your own life and other people's lives that you mention and wrote how the electronics is consuming their time. I also like the fact that this blog is rather long which tells me you put a lot of thought into this.

You make a good point by bringing up how drastically our technology has changed. how contacting someone miles away is not a challenge. as an alternative to creating the new ipod we could be putting our time and effort into focusing on more valuable issues.

It was interesting how you compared a futuristic movie to the present. Devices we were using a couple of years ago seem so old to us. i remember how different my very first phone was to the phone i have now. our technology is constantly improving. which makes me wonder about the question you mentioned: how far can and will we go from here?

Overall your blog has a lot of good arguments. but you had no clear stance on our digitalization. try and answer some of your questions to add onto your ideas. is it a bad or good thing that our technology is continuous becoming more advanced?

You make me think about the changes in technology. is the present what people thought it would be like? what will the world be like years from now?

It was thoughtful and easy to understand. great job! i can't wait for more.

  2. Hey Max

I loved reading your post because i like how you went from the 1990's which were the beepers and pagers, and then you went straight to ipods and sidekicks it shows a dramatic change in just about 19 years.

Technology did change a lot because like i said it only took 19 years for all these cool game systems and ipods and computers to come out, which was a dramatic change for us kids and the adults; considering they didn't have this new technology.

I connect this to the real world because like you said in the James Bond movie he had all these cool gadgets and what not and when you come to realize, we also have a couple of these cool stuff also. Like laptops with webcams and a butch of other stuff that come with customized cars.

You could of expanded a bit more on probably how you thought the future would be like in like another 20 years or so, so we can think a bit deeper about technology.

You made me realize a lot because in the 1990's i was playing sega genesis, and the tetris (on the old gameboy) but now were playing xbox360 ps3 and using our computers for entertainment, and now the old game systems are a thing in the past, just like beepers and pagers are.

To finish off I really enjoyed your post because it got me thinking and got me wanting to read more just like arden stated in her own post. But other than that i would love to see what other things you put on your blog.

  3. Arden,

Thanks for your post. i appreciate it. You talked about my thoughts on the whole point of digitalization and its purpose which im glad you understood. From the get go i sort of knew my points of weakness in my blog, you made me see smaller points that would help my blog become stronger as a whole. I liked your comment because you had mainly good things to say and when you did point the finger, you did it in a way that would only benefit me as a blogger.

    Thanks!

  4. Richie,

First off, I think we have a lot in common with our views on this whole digitalization unit. I like how you connected sega and dreamcast with beepers and pagers. It is very true how different the electronics we play with now as opposed to what we played with 10 years ago. i was hoping maybe you could have expanded on what aspects of my post i could have improved just so that next time i know what i should be aiming for. Thanks for the comment richie!
